Marina del Rey Anglers and the Marina del Rey Halibut Derby proudly present the 8th annual fundraising barbecue for the South Los Angeles Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association of California (CCA Cal). The event is slated for November 10, 2024, on the historic and picturesque grounds of the Compton Hunting & Fishing Club.

With supporting sponsorship provided by Island Fishing Tackle in Carson and the Los Angeles Rod and Reel Club, the event is set to get underway at 10 am with a fun-filled “golf” tournament using rod and reels and casting plugs to challenge your fishing skills at each hole. It’s free to sign up for a start time when you arrive, and there will be great prizes for the top three winners.

The South L.A. Chapter event will also include a silent auction, as well as a live auction, with lots of cool stuff to bid on. You will have a chance to pore over a plethora of raffle items and get your tickets for a chance to win top-notch fishing gear, sportfishing charters and more.

Special guest speaker for this year’s event will be Michael Fowlkes, famous producer and voice of the popular Inside Sportfishing TV series, as well as his latest film project, The History of Sportfishing, an epic 12-episode documentary series.

If you like barbecue, save your appetite, because the South L.A. Chapter fundraiser will feature a delicious barbecue lunch prepared by the chefs from Calabasas Custom Catering. The barbecue will feature Santa Maria-style slow-roasted tri-tip beef, pork ribs and chicken, along with sumptuous side dishes and refreshing beverages. The Compton Hunting and Fishing is located 1625 Sportsman Drive, Compton, California, and there’s plenty of parking.

“The CCA Cal South L.A. Chapter Annual Barbeque on November 10 promises lots of fun, food, refreshments and fellowship for the whole family from 10 am to 3 pm,” says Robby Gant, South L.A. Chapter president. “Just as importantly, it helps support CCA Cal’s important mission to protect the health, habitat and sustainability of California’s marine resources, as well as the interests of recreational saltwater anglers and access to the resources they cherish and use on a daily basis. Bring all of your friends and family, and I will look forward to seeing everyone there.”

Individual reservations are $75, and that includes an annual membership to CCA Cal. Tables for 10 are $700, with annual CCA CaL memberships included for each guest at your table. Make your reservations today by visiting CCACalifornia.org.
