Lake Del Valle Fishing Report
Here’s a fishing report from the Bay Area’s Lake Del Valle:
The weather this week has fluctuated where the mornings are beautiful with no winds making for some excellent fishing conditions. The later part of the day has been warm but the wind starts up with an average of about 15 mph.The water temperature is sitting at 69 degrees, a little warm for this time of the year. The water is clear and the lake is full, makes for some great fishing.
The trout have really slowed down due to the warm water. If you due target the Trout try getting into some deeper water. They have been staying down in depths of about 15 to 20 feet. Best bait to use is either garlic Power Bait or night crawlers.
Black bass are hitting pretty good. Find fallen trees, weed beds or the tulle patches. We would recommend throwing either a weedless Senko or an artificial crawdads on a 1/2 to a 1 oz Football jighead. Anglers are also catching them on shallow to mid running crank baits.
Striped bass are probably your best bet to try and target. Anglers are catching most of the striped bass in either Swallow Bay or Heron Bay. Best baits have been Anchovies or Sardines. You can also try catching them on nice sized Jerk Baits like Lucky Kraft, Yo Zuri. We would also recommend jigging for them with either a Hair Raiser or a Chatter Bait.
Catfish are starting to show themselves with many reporting catches. Many of the catfish are smaller but we’ve dad anglers report a few catches up to 10 pounds. Best bait to use would be chicken livers, anchovies or sardines. Try finding big fallen trees or deep coves if you are going to target them.
