Clovis Angler Catches Massive, Shaver Lake-Record Brown Trout

During my days as a Fresno State student, I made multiple trips northeast up Highway 168 up to the high Sierra fishery at Shaver Lake. And I caught plenty of trout and catfish at this productive gem. So I was excited to find out that one lucky angler recently landed a lake-record brown trout. Clovis resident Steve Jones caught this massive brownie, a Shaver-best 24.40 pounds.

Here are some additional details from a Facebook post:

The Shaver Lake record has officially been smashed! ?

This German Brown Trout was caught by Steve Jones of Clovis, California on May 16th. Steve stopped by our Shaver Lake Sports store to have his catch officially weighed and measured, which came in at 24.40 pounds and 37.5 inches! The previouss Shaver Lake record fish was recorded in the 1980s, weighing in at 18.75 pounds. Steve also caught a limit of Kokanee and 1 Rainbow trout while trolling with a Pink Hoochie skirt and 6” watermelon dodger.

With all the recent stockings, Shaver Lake is a trout hot spot right now. Get out while you can!

Congratulations to Steve from an old Shaver regular!
