Apprentice Pheasant Hunts Return to Del Norte County Aug. 10
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will host two apprentice pheasant hunts Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Lake Earl Wildlife Area in Del Norte County.
A morning hunt begins at 8 a.m. followed by an afternoon hunt at 1 p.m. Each hunt can accommodate 10 youth hunters. Adult mentors and dog handlers will accompany the new hunters into the field. Advanced registration is required online at CDFW’s Special and Apprentice Hunts Online Registration website. Spots are filled through a random drawing.
The apprentice pheasant hunts return to Del Norte County after an absence of nearly 10 years. The Del Norte County hunts will kick off dozens of apprentice pheasant hunts that will be held throughout California this fall and winter. Apprentice pheasant hunts typically open to online registration a few weeks before their hunt dates.
Apprentice pheasant hunts are designed for novice hunters with Junior Hunting Licenses. The hunts provide these beginners with an opportunity to learn hunting safety and etiquette in a controlled, mentored environment and experience some success in the uplands.
