The following is courtesy of our friends at Kittle’s Outdoor & Sport in Colusa:

The Biggest Little Pro Sports Shop in the Heart of the Pacific Flyway turns 20. At the base of the Smallest Mountain Range in the World and on the banks of the Sacramento River, Kittle’s Outdoor features catalog prices with professional service.

2019 marks 20 years for Kittle’s Outdoor – we will be celebrating with a store wide sale combined with hosting the CA State Duck Calling contest and Butte Sink Regional contest Aug. 24 and 25.

Company history:  Colusa County has a long history of duck hunting and retail supply stores for the hunters. In the early 1930’s I.G. Zumwalt Tractor Co. carried shotguns and ammunition.  There was a store in the late 1940’s that was the areas primary sporting goods retailer. This store was Chick Montgomery’s. In the mid 1970’s Chick’s was owned and operated by a family member that expanded into a successful women’s boutique, which also carried a few sporting goods for the upland and waterfowl market.

Richard A. Kittle Jr. was a partner in the George L. Messick Co. Ace Hardware store in Colusa until he started his own True Value Hardware Store in 1980.  Two of his sons were inspired by the experience they had working at their father’s hardware business. Both of these hardware stores also carried sporting goods, but no store in the area had been solely sporting goods since Chick’s started selling women’s clothing in the 1970’s. Being avid outdoorsmen in the Colusa area, Patrick and Scott Kittle realized the need for a store that would be dedicated to the hunting and fishing sports.

After several years of planning, Kittle’s Outdoor & Sport was established in September of 1999 by R.Scott & Patrick T. Kittle.

The original location for Kittle’s Outdoor was at the corner of 10th and Market Street, a Zumwalt property that was the Red and White / Park Market and service station in the 1930’s.  Pat and Scott purchased the property and renovated it in 1998.

After 10 years at the original location, the business expanded into the I.G. Zumwalt Tractor Co. Building just one block away.  This historic building was built in 1919 and renovated in 2010.

Kittle’s Outdoor continues to be a family owned operation located in Uptown Colusa, CA. Kittle’s is known throughout California for its large inventory of waterfowl supplies. One block from the Colusa-Sacramento River State Park, and near the Grey Lodge Wildlife Area, as well as the Delevan, Sutter and Colusa National Wildlife Refuges,  Kittle’s also has a vast fishing department for the surrounding world class rivers and lakes.

The employees at Kittle’s have a lot of experience with hunting and fishing. It is important for our customers get the right equipment for their outdoor adventure and also have the right information about where, how, and when.
