SST & Chlorophyll Charts … To Go

Terrafin recently announced the release of a new version of the Terrafin Mobile app. This year Terrafin Mobile has been completely redesigned,  specifically with on the water use in mind.  The most frequently used functions and user-defined favorite regions are more easily accessible.  Larger user interface controls make selecting options easy, even on a moving vessel.  A new Chart View screen greatly improves the visibility of  temperature readings and navigational coordinates. The vessel display capability has also been enhanced, with faster updates of position and navigational readings.

Terrafin Mobile allows the user to quickly download charts from the Terrafin website, then store the images on their tablet or smartphone.  The charts can be viewed and manipulated later, even when no internet or cellular connection is available.  Navigational functions include a tap and drag cursor for accurate latitude / longitude & temperature readings, the ability to mark waypoints, distance and bearing calculations and more.  GPS enabled devices can even show real-time vessel location and track on the charts.

Power Caster: “It’s Easy To Maneuver”

 Power Caster

Since 1967, we’ve prided ourselves on manufacturing a product our
customers can rely on.  Each Power Caster is hand assembled in the U.S.A.
to ensure consistent quality and performance. It’s Easy to Maneuver
With Power Caster you can move your single- or tandem-axle trailer and
park it in just a few minutes with very little effort.  Sharp turns, tight corners
and narrow driveways–which are often difficult or impossible using your car
or truck–are no longer a headache.  A 23-foot tandem trailer can be turned
completely around in a 28-foot wide space with a flip of a switch.

Power Caster, Inc
1967
Power Caster, Inc
It’s Safe
Power Caster has been designed and manufactured to meet maximum safety standards.  In addition to a chain
guard, each unit is also grounded.  Our tongue weight and load limits are conservative (with the exception of the
PC-1), allowing plenty of margin for safety.
It’s Powerful and Compact
Each motor delivers 400-800 in./lbs. of torque at the motor shaft.  This is further geared down by a six-to-one ratio
between the motor and wheel.  The result is tremendous power being delivered to the wheel.  Depending on the
model you choose–PC-1, PC-2 or PC-3–Power Caster can handle a tongue load of 500, 800 or 1,800 pounds–all
at a size small enough to fit in the trunk of a car.
It Delivers Maximum Traction
Power Caster connects to the trailer by use of the crank-up jack (NOT THE BALL) or one of our adapters.  This in
effect shortens the trailer tongue and loads it more heavily for better traction.  All models operate best on
comparatively level hard-surfaced ground or pavement.  Inclines of no more than 10% are recommended.  Traction
and trailer weight control areas that can be traversed.  If you provide traction, Power Caster will even move
trailers over grass or soil.
It Can Be Customized
The customization doesn’t stop once you choose the model that best fits your tongue load capacity needs.  Easy
to install bolt-on adapters are available so Power Caster can be used with almost any kind of trailer.  All models
come with a 2-1/4″ socket and bushings that cover crank-up jack diameters of 1-5/8″, 1-3/4″, 1-7/8″ and 2″.  And,
while only the PC-3 comes with the kit that allows you to tap into electric trailer brakes, accessory brake switch
kits are available for the PC-1 and PC-2.
It’s Guaranteed
We’re so sure you’ll be satisfied with the performance of Power Caster that each model comes with a money-back
guarantee.  Simply return your Power Caster within 60 days of purchase, in its original condition (we have to
deduct for paint scratches), and we will refund the purchase price 100 percent (less shipping and handling costs,
both ways).  We also offer a two-year warranty that covers replacement of any defective parts.*

Davis & Associates: “Deep Roots in the Firearms’ Industry”

cowboy

Davis & Associates (D&A) has deep roots in the firearm industry, going back to its owner’s, Jason Davis, familial legacy.  Beginning in the late 1960?s, Jason Davis’ family began manufacturing inexpensive firearms in the Southern California region.  Beginning with his grandfather’s business, Raven Arms, the family’s businesses grew exponentially with the additions of Davis Industries, Jennings Firearms, Bryco Arms, Republic Arms, Phoenix Arms, Sedco, and more.  Two decades later, his family’s businesses dominated the handgun market, producing a substantial percentage of all handguns manufactured in the United States.

danda

Success breeds contempt, and the anti-gun movement soon began a propaganda campaign to demonize low income firearms and the manufacturers, dubbing the businesses “The Ring of Fire” based upon their geographic locations in Southern California.

Subsequently, municipalities passed laws that were designed and intended to prohibit the sale of inexpensive firearms – barring a whole entire socio-economic class from exercising their Second Amendment right to bear arms.  Most of those laws have since been repealed, but their message was clear: if we do not stand up for our right to bear arms, that right will be diminished.  Having worked as a firearms manufacturer during this period, Jason Davis joined in the fight by obtaining his law degree from Loyola Law School and representing a number of firearms manufacturers, distributors, dealers, and associations in their ongoing campaign to effectuate the most fundamental right of all.  By adopting the “Ring of Fire” label as his own, Jason Davis shows his support for his family’s heritage and wears “The Ring of Fire” logo as a badge of honor.

With over twenty-three years of experience in the firearms industry, D&A has developed the relationships and understanding of firearms and dangerous weapons laws necessary to succeed in this highly political environment.  D&A fights hard to defend your right to bear arms, challenging federal, state, and local laws and regulations in both the court houses and regulatory proceedings.  D&A has experience representing multiple leading firearms rights associations, most recently the CalGuns Foundation, in Civil Rights litigation and policy issues.  D&A has also represented various law enforcement agencies and officers, industry trade associations, gun shows, importers, manufacturers, distributors, dealers, indoor and outdoor shooting ranges, special effects companies, prop houses, armories, pyro-technicians, and individuals who face federal and state licensing, permits, and compliance issues or criminal charges.  We know the details and background behind California’s gun laws.  And, we know the people enforcing those laws.

Zero Tolerance Rolls Out A Host Of Knives, Tomahawk For 2014

By Andy Walgamott, on January 23rd, 2014

Zero Tolerance Introduces the 0102 Tomahawk

Vanadis 4 Extra powdered steel makes it tough and durable

TUALATIN, OREGON— Zero Tolerance is proud to introduce our own tactical tomahawk, the new 0102.

This powerful tool is adept at everything from obstacle removal and dynamic entry to opening crates. Like everything else we do, the Tomahawk is overbuilt for extreme use. The back spike is designed for maximum penetration, while the pommel includes a sturdy pry bar.

Vanadis 4 Extra powdered steel makes the ZT tomahawk extremely tough, while the DLC coating protects the blade. G-10 handle scales offer a secure grip and are beveled for comfort.

The Tomahawk comes with its own sheath for storage and easy carrying.

A New Fixed Blade from ZT & Rick Hinderer

• Based on Hinderer’s Fieldtac knife

TUALATIN, OREGON—Based on Rick Hinderer’s Fieldtac knife, the new Zero Tolerance 0180 is a smaller and lighter fixed blade knife, yet it’s built to handle tough duty.

The blade is made of Vanadis 4 Extra powder mettalurgical cold work steel. This steel is perfectly designed for hard use and offers good wear resistance. Resistance to chipping and cracking makes it an excellent steel for hard-use applications like the 0180. It is also very suitable for coating—which ZT does with Tungsten DLC non-reflective coating.

The 0180’s handle scales are G-10 for durability as well as reduced weight. The handle locks right into the hand and the forefinger contour provides grip security. Heavy jimping on the spine further enhances grip.

The 0180 comes with a convenient belt sheath.

New Zero Tolerance Blackwash™ Finish is the New Black

• Zero Tolerance is one of the first major manufacturers to use this new type of finish on production knives

TUALATIN, OREGON—Zero Tolerance introduces BlackWash.

A BlackWash knife is like a battle-tested tool or a favorite pair of well-worn jeans. BlackWash gives a ZT that already-broken-in look. Although a few custom knife makers have been using this process, Zero Tolerance is one of the first major manufacturers to use it on production knives. Like any coating, it will wear eventually, but with BlackWash, additional wear just adds to the look.

ELMAX® Blade, Hinderer & ZT Style and Toughness

• The new 0562 features a special Hinderer “slicer” grind

TUALATIN, OREGON—For 2014, Zero Tolerance and Rick Hinderer teamed up to build the new 0562.

The ELMAX® powdered steel blade features a special Hinderer, a flat-ground “slicer” grind that provides both slicing efficiency and a tough point. ELMAX is a third-generation powdered steel with virtually no nonmetallic inclusions. This means it offers an extremely uniform distribution of carbides for high wear and corrosion resistance. Zero Tolerance sharpens it to a hair popping edge and the ELMAX ensures it holds that edge for a long time, even under hard use.

The knife opens with a flipper and moves out of the handle on our smooth KVT ball-bearing opening system. A washer with caged ball bearings surrounds the pivot and makes opening the knife nearly frictionless; just pull back on the flipper and add a roll of the wrist and the 0562 is ready for action.

The handle has a G-10 textured scale in front and a stonewashed titanium back. For secure lock up during use, ZT uses a frame lock with hardened steel lockbar inserts and lockbar stabilization.

The unique pocketclip is reversible and enables extra-deep carry in the pocket.

M390 + Carbon Fiber in our Newest Right-Sized ZT

• A carbon fiber front scale lightens weight and adds class

TUALATIN, OREGON— The cousin of our new 0562, this ZT features the same special Rick Hinderer flat-ground “slicer” grind that provides both slicing efficiency and a tough point, but on a Böhler M390 powdered steel blade.

With a high chromium and vanadium content, M390 offers good wear resistance with excellent corrosion resistance. This powdered metallurgy stainless steel takes a razor edge and holds it well. It can also be polished to a mirror finish and is very tough.

The 0562CF’s handle has a carbon fiber front scale and stonewashed titanium back. For secure lock up during use, ZT uses a frame lock with hardened steel lockbar inserts and lockbar stabilization.

The knife opens with a flipper and moves out of the handle on our smooth KVT ball-bearing opening system. A washer with caged ball bearings surrounds the pivot and makes opening the knife nearly frictionless; just pull back on the flipper and add a roll of the wrist and the 0562CF is ready for action.

The Zero Tolerance 0770CF Now Comes with Carbon Fiber Handle

• A compact version of the award-winning Zero Tolerance 0777

* New carbon fiber handle for lightweight carry

TUALATIN, OREGON—The original, award-winning Zero Tolerance 0777 is a very limited-run knife. Yet interest in it is high among blade aficionados.

That’s why Zero Tolerance is proud to announce a new version of that award-winning knife—one that will be much more generally available. The 0770CF offers the style and performance of the award-winning 0777, but in a slightly smaller, streamlined version.

For ZT performance, the blade is built of ELMAX® powdered steel, which provides the ability to take a razor edge, excellent edge retention, strength, and toughness. A stonewashed finish on the blade hides hard-use scratches and makes maintenance easier.

The sweeping lines of the original 0777 are preserved in the lightweight carbon fiber handle that nestles securely in the hand. An inset liner lock secures the blade.

The 0770CF opens quickly and easily thanks to SpeedSafe® assisted opening and the built-in flipper. A deep-carry pocketclip ensures it rides securely in the pocket. For a final touch of class, ZT adds a handsome oversized pivot.

Zero Tolerance & Emerson Team Up on Two New Knives

• Both will feature the Emerson’s patented “wave shaped feature” opening

TUALATIN, OREGON— Zero Tolerance and Emerson Knives put their hard-use heads together to create two new ZT knives: the 0620 and the 0620CF.

Both feature premium blade steel. Both feature the famous Emerson “wave shaped opening feature.” Both honor their commitment to innovative technology, award-winning design, and top-quality craftsmanship.

The patented Emerson “wave shaped feature” enables each of these new knives to be opened as it is removed from the pocket. By the time the knife has been fully withdrawn from the pocket, the blade is deployed and ready for use. A small wave-shaped tab on the top of the blade is built to catch on the pocket seam, opening the knife as it comes out of the pocket. This Emerson instant-open feature is a favorite among military, rescue, and law enforcement knife users.

Both knives feature a modified tanto style blade that locks securely into place with a sturdy frame lock. Hardened steel inserts in the lockbar make it extra durable. The 0620’s blade is ELMAX® steel with DLC blade coating, while the 0620CF’s is M390 steel with a stonewashed and satin finish.

Chico Honda Motorsports: Return To The Glory Days

Gabe Eggen of Chico Honda Motorsports.

Gabe Eggen of Chico Honda Motorsports.

Chico Honda Motorsports was revived on April 4th, 2011 by Gabe Eggen
and his team.  Gabe previously worked at Chico Honda Motorsports
during high school and most of college. The very place that would
later become his life and passion had helped him obtain the education
he needed to succeed. A few years of management work after college
prepared Gabe to start the long process that would eventually lead to
the purchase of Chico Honda Motorsports. Armed with the capital,
energy, and new ideas necessary to return Chico Honda Motorsports to
its glory days, Gabe set out to do just that.

A motorsports dream team was hired that to make all of the new ideas
for Chico Honda Motorsports a reality. The main focus and new
philosophy is simple: community. All riders from all brands and types
of riding share one main trait: love for the sport. From ATVs to
scooters and from street bikes to dirt bikes, all of us love to ride.

Motorsports riders are a family and family sticks together.  Hopefully
in time we can get back to the roots of the sport and remember why we
ride in the first place.

Don Pedro Lake: One Of Mother Lode’s Premier Playgrounds

Aerial view Fleming & Middle Bay

Aerial view of Fleming and Middle Bay

Located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, east of Modesto, California, Don Pedro Lake is the sixth largest man-made lake in California. The reservoir offers 160 miles of shoreline and 13,000 surface acres of water to enjoy when the lake is full. Boating, fishing, swimming, waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing and house boating are just some of the water-oriented activities enjoyed at the Lake.

Benefiting from a Florida-strain largemouth bass stocking program provided by the Don Pedro Recreation Agency and a trout stocking program provided by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, anglers can find a variety of fish to catch including bass and king salmon of double digit weight. Largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass; rainbow, brook and brown trout; landlocked king, kokanee and silver salmon; catfish, crappie, bluegill and other warm water species are caught at the lake. A brochure about fishing at Don Pedro Lake can be found at the following link: http://www.donpedrolake.com/sites/default/files/docs/dpra-fishing-brochure.pdf

With the lake surface adjoining Bureau of Land Management lands in many locations, hunting is permitted at Don Pedro Lake in accordance with local and state laws, BLM regulations and Don Pedro Recreation Agency Regulations and Ordinances. More information on hunting at Don Pedro Lake can be found at the following link:

Summers are busy at the lake with campers and boaters partaking in a wide variety of water oriented sports, in addition to fishing. During fall, winter and spring, activity at the lake is quiet with great opportunity for the fishing and hunting sportsmen to enjoy their sport.

Don Pedro Recreation Agency offers campsites year-round at three campgrounds. Fleming Meadows and Blue Oaks are located on the west shore, and Moccasin Point is located on the east shore. The campgrounds offer hook-up sites, tent sites, restrooms, hot showers, boat launch ramps, sewage dump stations, and fish cleaning stations. Two full service marinas are located at Fleming Meadows and Moccasin Point campgrounds. During the summer, Fleming Meadows also features a 2-acre swimming lagoon with filtered/ treated water, complete with a sand beach area, large grass lawn, snack shack and picnic area. Group picnic areas are also available for reservation at Fleming Meadows and Moccasin Point and a group camp area is available at Blue Oaks. Dermestid Beetles: Cleaning Your Trophy Mount

Beetle 5 Double

As hunters, we always want to remember our adventures in the field. Sharing our trials and successes of the hunt with others is as old as the activity itself. Whether it’s taking photos of the event or preserving part of the animal to commemorate a milestone, remembering our field adventures is an important part of the hunting tradition.
Most hunters opt for the standard shoulder mount to immortalize a successful trip. They’re stylish, traditional, and the workmanship of many of today’s taxidermists is amazing. However, they can be expensive, bulky and take several months to a year to get back to you depending on how busy your taxidermist is.
Many outdoors enthusiasts may not realize there is a cheaper, and in my opinion, more attractive alternative to the standard shoulder mount to remember a successful hunt. A European mount is simply the skull of an animal cleaned, whitened and suitable for display. Over the years, the techniques used to process an animal head into a European mount have evolved.
For cleaning skulls, taxidermists no longer prefer the old methods of soaking a head in water until the meat falls off (maceration) or boiling the skull. Serious skull cleaners use dermestid beetles.
For close to 15 years now, I’ve maintained several large colonies of dermestid beetles for skull-cleaning purposes. During that time, I’ve learned a great deal on how to culture, care for and utilize the beetles for cleaning bones. What started as an interesting hobby has grown quickly into a thriving Internet business, and my preferred way to remember my adventures in the field.
Probably one of the most frequently asked questions I get regarding the beetles is if they will harm the living. This species has absolutely no desire in anything other than dried-out, dead meat. They don’t bite and are essentially harmless. They do require good ventilation and a working temperature of between 70 to 85 degrees, which makes cultivating this species in California relatively easy.
More adventurous individuals may want to consider starting their own dermestid beetle colony. They’re easy to raise and maintain, and many beetle culturists are available online, providing information on raising and caring for your own colony. Dermestid Inc. (dermestidbeetlecolonies.com), an online dealer in dermestid beetles, offers informative DVDs, beetle starter kits and all the information required to successfully culture beetles.
